Mercedes is chairman emeritus of the $970 million (sales) Filinvest Development, with interests in real estate, sugar, hospitality and banking. Mercedes and her late husband Andrew Gotianun Sr. started out with a firm that focused on small-scale financing of second-hand cars in 1955. The Gotianun family expanded the small firm into consumer finance in partnership with foreign institutions. Andrew Gotianun died in March of 2016 at the age of 88. Their daughter Josephine runs the company as president and CEO.
